Digital Masquerade: An Evening Where AI Film, Light, and Human Presence Converged
MML
Vancouver, December 6, 2025 — On the evening of December 6, 2025, Multimodal Media Lab (MML) hosted Digital Masquerade – AI Film Showcase Night, an immersive event centered on AI-generated film, digital identity, and transparent LED visual systems. The event brought together creators, technologists, and filmmakers from the Vancouver creative community for a night of screenings, interaction, and exchange.

Hosted by MML, with technical support from ClearLED, the event featured a curated program of AI short films by Vancouver-based creators, alongside selected highlight works from MML’s ongoing research and production in AI film and spatial media. The evening also marked the first public preview of the venue as a future hub for AI-driven film, LED visuals, and creative collaboration.

The screening program explored themes including character construction, atmosphere, memory, and abstraction, demonstrating how AI can function as an expressive creative tool that expands cinematic language rather than replacing traditional storytelling practices.

Beyond the film screenings, attendees engaged with a range of interactive and spatial experiences.
An AI Digital Mask experience allowed guests to generate personalized AI-created identities and receive a printed keepsake, prompting reflection on digital self-representation and authorship.

Transparent LED displays integrated AI-generated visuals directly into the space, highlighting potential applications across exhibitions, architecture, stage design, public environments, and immersive storytelling.

The evening also included live vocal and piano performances, adding a human and performative dimension to the event’s technological focus.

Digital Masquerade was conceived not only as a one-night showcase, but as the formal introduction of a new creative space. MML plans to develop this venue as an ongoing platform for experimentation, presentation, and collaboration across AI film, spatial media, and visual systems.
Looking Ahead
As MML moves into 2026, the lab continues to expand its capabilities—from supporting governments and startups in communicating complex ideas through visual storytelling, to advancing internal AI toolsets and deepening its work in spatial and immersive media. More events, partnerships, and projects will be announced in the coming year.
